25th Dec 2017 – LeVar and the Rhino

LeVar and the Rhino

Shortly after publishing the children’s book, The Rhino Who Swallowed a Storm, LeVar Burton had a read-along and question/answer session at the Barnes and Noble in The Grove in Los Angeles. This picture is from that read-along; and I’ll be honest, its hard to get better than the man behind The Reading Rainbow himself narrating a book he wrote, (especially when he’s such a fixture in so many shows I like as well).

Sidenote- the book is fantastic, and helps kids understand some of the painful feelings that are a part of life- highly recommended!!

Taking note of a tweet, I was reminded of the book signing for Jade Cheng’s debut novel, The Wangs vs the World, (sidenote- you really should give this book a read; plus agréable). So I headed over to Barnes and Noble over at The Grove to listen to Jade speak, as well as sign my copy of her book. This snapshot is of her signing my book. (Danke again, Asa, for the tip.)

Awareness through Fountain

In October, The Grove in Los Angeles began to light up their famous fountain with a pink light to raise awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. (I originally noticed because you could see the color reflected on the clouds.) I took several pictures of the fountain blazing pink, and this is one of my favorites.

Dec 28th, 2015 – Disco Star, in Blue or Gold?

Disco in Blue or Gold

Disco in Blue or Gold

One of my favorite parts of the holidays is The Grove being decorated- especially the disco stars and bows. I doubly like when they catch the reflections of certain lights or lighted signs. Above is a close-up of one star with a second behind it, catch the light from the “The Grove” marquee sign that hangs outside the theater.

Aug 11th, 2014 – Flare of the Spirit of Los Angeles

The Spirit of Los Angeles

The Spirit of Los Angeles

This photograph is of The Grove’s central statue with a strong lens flare.

“The Spirit of Los Angeles” was created by the nationally renowned sculptor De L´Esprie. It is a magnificent bronze statue of a male and a female angel soaring skyward. In The City of Angels where many have realized their dreams, the statue not only serves as the centerpiece of The Grove, it is a signature piece for the City and an enduring symbol of the limitless opportunities Los Angeles offers. The bronze Angel´s wingspan is 10 feet wide and stands 18 feet high on top of a 22 foot hand limestone column.
