Snapshot of the model of the Space Shuttle Challenger, located in the Little Tokyo District of Downtown Los Angeles. This model is a memorial for Ellison Onizuka, who was one of the seven NASA astronauts who were assigned to Shuttle mission STS 51-L; the shuttle mission that ended in tragedy when the Challenger was destroyed shortly after liftoff.

As mentioned a few times previously, one of the quirks of Los Angeles is that when fireworks go off around America to celebrate Independence Day (or New Year’s), since the city is so spread out, that fireworks demonstrations erupt all over the city. You can see skybursts down amongst the city skyline, as well as one much closer from a neighborhood celebration.
